The growth in March is more than double the growth rate of 8.6% registered in the preceding month of February.
“In fact, the consumption of vitamin supplements began increasing from the second week of February. With a surge in Covid-19 cases, the sales further jumped in March as vitamin C and multivitamins are prescribed along with the drugs to treat Covid-19,” said Alpesh Patel, president, Federation of Gujarat State Chemists and Druggists’ Association. People have again started using more vitamin and mineral supplements to boost immunity in the wake of the current wave of Covid-19 infections getting intensified.
“If one family member is tested positive, others in the family also begin taking vitamin supplements to fortify their immunity. As a result, there has been a noticeable growth in sales of vitamin supplements,” Patel added. Ever since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the sales of vitamin supplements have remained strong as people popped more supplements to remain healthy and boost their immunity. Meanwhile, on the back of strong growth in therapeutic segments such as gastrointestinal, gynaecological and urology, the Indian pharma industry witnessed a growth of 10.3% in the month of March. The growth was 1.1% in February, AIOCD AWACS data further added.
